Otoplasty

The correct shape and small size of ears has always been a symbol of beauty. But not everybody has such ears from birth, and, for esthetic reasons, it is better to do otoplasty in Kyiv than feel unattractive or unpretty for the whole life.

Otoplasty means changing the shape and size of auricles and the correction of their position in relation to skull bones. The most common otoplasty surgery is the correction of everted ears followed by reconstructive surgeries for deformed ears. Deformation can be caused by an injury or be inborn.

It is considered that the formation of auricles is complete by the age of six and it is better to have all plastic surgeries done by this age, but modern technologies can make ears beautiful both in the childhood and at any other age. On top of that, the price for otoplasty in Kyiv is affordable virtually for everyone.

Types of otoplasty

There are two types of operations depending on the purpose of otoplasty:

  1. Esthetic otoplasty, whose aim to correct esthetic ear deficiencies. During the operation, the cartilage behind the auricle is modelled. Esthetic otoplasty changes the shape of ears, their size and position. Sometimes, extra cartilage is removed, and the remaining cartilage is fixed with catgut keeping it in place. The operation itself is not technically challenging.
  2. Reconstructive otoplasty, whose aim is to restore the auricle after injuries, to create an artificial cartilage (absence of an ear part) and to correct ears after burns or abnormal development. During the operation, it may be necessary to restore the auditory canal or earlobe, so this type of otoplasty is a long process that can be executed in several stages. Its average duration is from 6 months to 1 year.
