The dream of every woman is to stay young and attractive as long as possible. Years take their toll and it becomes increasingly difficult to preserve the natural beauty. Face lift is expensive and is not always successful, and Botox has only a short-term effect. There is a method that does not have these disadvantages. It is lipofilling.
Face lipofilling is an injection technique that involves the grafting of one’s own fat into problem zones: on cheekbones, eyelids, neck, lips and forehead. The manipulation eliminates wrinkles, makes the skin flexible and turgor and restores the natural face oval.
Advantages of face lipofilling
The main advantage of this technique is its safety. There is a risk of allergic and infectious complications when working with implants, mesothreads and Botox. Lipofilling does not have this disadvantage because one’s own fat cannot become a source of infection or allergy.
There are several other advantages of lipofilling:
Wide age eligibility. The procedure can be performed on people aging from 18 to 70.
Low invasiveness. There are no scars remaining on the skin after lipofilling.
Short rehabilitation period. Patients easily go through the post-operative rehabilitation.
Immediate result. The effect of lipofilling is visible immediately after the operation.
In case of contraindication to circular face lift or Botox injections, lipofilling may become the only solution for safe face skin rejuvenation.
Indications to the procedure
Lipofilling helps get rid of ageing signs on the face. Indications to the procedure include:
mimic wrinkles and skin folds;
dryness and low flexibility of the skin;
unnatural face oval — sunken cheekbones and cheeks, bags under eyes, thin lips;
elimination of the tired face effect.
In addition to esthetic indication, there are also reconstructive ones. Reconstruction in medicine means the restoration of the natural look of tissues after injuries and in case of congenital diseases. Lipofilling is indicated in case of atrophic scars, failed liposuction, as well as skin defects after dentofacial surgeries or in case of congenital pathologies.
Contraindications to lipofilling can be divided into two categories: absolute and relative. The former include:
worsening of chronic diseases (somatic, nervous and mental);
acute infectious diseases;
blood coagulability disorders;
inflammations, rash, injuries or neoplasms in the face region;
Relative contraindications are more numerous. A surgeon may perform the procedure if they are present, but the risk of complications increases. Examples of relative contraindications include the intake of anticoagulants or smoking in the pre-operative period.
Preparation for face lipofilling
A surgeon must be consulted before the procedure. The doctor examines the patient, assesses contraindications and the patient’s condition. At this stage, the site for fat collection, transplantation sites and the expected effect are discussed. An additional consultation of an anesthesiologist is required if a patient has allergies.
The doctor will ask the patient to have instrumental and laboratory tests taken:
complete blood and urine test;
blood biochemistry test (coagulogram, blood glucose, proteins of acute phase, electrolytes);
syphilis and hepatites antibodies.
Refrain from smoking and drinking alcohol a week before lipofilling. A particular attention should be paid to the diet – eat light food rich in proteins and cellulose. Have more rest, avoid stress and overload.
Do not apply make-up, lotions or toners causing irritation or allergic reactions. In the morning take a shower, relax and come to the manipulation.
Lipofilling is performed both under general and under local anesthesia. The choice is always up to the surgeon. At the first stage, puncture sites are outlined, photos are taken and antiseptic preparation is performed. Then the surgery itself begins:
The surgeon makes a puncture 2-4 mm in diameter at the point from which fat is collected. A typical site for these purposes is the front of the stomach, saddlebags, buttocks or the back. The fatty tissue is sucked out into a special reservoir. The puncture site is then sutured.
The patient’s fat is processed. It is filtered, centrifuged and transferred to another vessel. A platelet concentrate is added for the fatty tissue to take better.
The grafting of fat onto the face skin. The fatty tissue is introduced under the skin. It smooths out wrinkles, fills the hollows and contributes to face rejuvenation.
The operation is over. If general anesthesia was used, the patient is awoken and taken to the in-patient department.
Lipofilling lasts for 30-90 minutes. The procedure duration depends on the number of anatomic zones to be operated on.
Rehabilitation period: limitations and care
Rehabilitation after lipofilling is smooth and uncomplicated in most people. Following 1-2 days at the in-patient department the patient is discharged. Work can be resumed after 2 weeks.
During the first 7 days after the surgery there may be swelling, itching and pain around the fat collection and introduction sites. In order to speed up the healing process and prevent complications, it is advised to observe the following recommendations:
Refrain from smoking and drinking alcohol. Both bad habits stimulate fat decomposition in the grafting site.
Avoid sunbathing. Ultraviolet radiation slows down healing.
Do not exercise.
Apply healing creams on the face according to the doctor’s prescriptions.
Reduce mechanical impact on the operation site.
Do not apply make-up.
If inflammation and pain in the operation site persist or get worse, immediately consult the doctor. He will examine you and prescribe proper treatment.
The effect of lipofilling can be appreciated immediately after the correction procedure. The final result is visible after 2 months. The surgeon deliberately introduces more fat than necessary because 30-40% of fat deposits get reabsorbed and excreted with blood and lymph. If this percentage is higher, a repeated operation may be needed. The lipofilling effect lasts for 3-5 years. The procedure is repeated then.
Cost of face lipofilling
The cost of lipofilling consists of individual operation components:
consultation or a surgeon and anesthesiologist;
operation itself (its price depends on the number of anatomic zones that are operated on);
stay at the in-patient department;
costs of the rehabilitation period.
